April is National Credit Union Youth Month!
Unleash the power of saving and introduce your children to the benefits of saving at First United Credit Union. All youth who make a deposit (or open an account) will receive a fun activity tote bag!* The earlier you get started, the more powerful their earnings become.
Teaching the importance of saving:
- Preschoolers – Show your kids the various denominations of money, including coins and bills. Explain how money works and how to make choices with even lesser amounts.
- Ages 5 to 8 – Take a step to discuss new skills, such as goal setting. Bring your kids to the credit union and show them how to make a deposit. Explain how regular deposits can help you reach a goal.
- Ages 9 to 12 – Comparison shop, either in person or online. Develop a straightforward spending plan every week; use a log to monitor spending.
- Teens – Set a budget for items important to your teen, perhaps clothing or electronics. Have them investigate a purchase or project, such as a new car or bath remodel. Discuss what impacts pricing. For older teens, consider a Debit Card.
